Things are FALL-ing Into Place

Well that was fast!  Not sure how the rest of you felt, but I blinked and summer was over.  On the bright side, we’re still getting some fall sunshine in Vancouver, so at the very least we’re stretching out that warm weather!

Hope you all had a fantastic summer yourselves filled with fun activities and time spent with your loved ones.  I must admit, the last couple of months have been a bit of a journey for me, but things really are “FALL”-ing into place this season and I am so excited about what’s to come!

Let’s rewind a bit back to July.  I hosted my big summer art show and sale and had just about everything from my collection, big and small pieces, out on display in my beautiful backyard space.  We had great weather, live musicians, and I was feeling super positive about the day.  But sometimes no matter how much you prepare for and promote an event, there are a million and one reasons why you don’t get the turnout you’re expecting.  And quite frankly, I was disappointed in the lack of attendees this year.  I recognize it was the prime time of summer – travel has re-opened so people were away, COVID restrictions are non-existent so there were a TON of other events happening the same day… again, a million plus reasons why our crowd was so cozy, but it was still a hard pill for me to swallow and I was a bit bummed.  Don’t get me wrong – those who came through had a fantastic time and really enjoyed the art and live music, so I’m very appreciative of everyone who took the time to visit the show.  Thank you!  It took me a bit of recovery time and some good old art therapy, but a couple weeks later I had fresh new ideas, a beautiful new painting (“Redemption” pictured below.  Very challenging peonies!), and despite this summer’s turnout, I’m determined to host another show.  Maybe before year-end?  Stay tuned.  The moral of this story is – we can only control what’s in our control, so try your best, forget the rest, and move on to bigger and better things!

With that being said, what’s to come for Georgia Youngs?
Quite a lot, actually.  The next couple of months are shaping up to be busy ones but I’m ready for it!
Thrilled to share that I’ll be displaying my work at a few place in the very near future:

October 4th to 30th – The Gallery George (https://www.gallerygeorgevancouver.com/)
“True Colours” exhibit, showcasing a few of my newer floral paintings here.  Join me at the Opening Reception/Meet & Greet on October 9th from 2-4pm!

October 14th to 16th – The Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival (https://www.cacv.ca/programs/vancouver-outsider-arts-festival/) at the Roundhouse Community Centre.  This is an amazing free art event with 600+ artworks from talented Vancouver artists, performers and workshops.  Anyone and everyone should come visit for a great weekend celebrating the arts.  I can’t wait to showcase one of my floral collections here.

Now till Year-End – The Secret Garden Tea Company (https://secretgardentea.com/).  Switched up my paintings here back in June, and happy to share that they’ll be on display till the end of the year.  Enjoy their delicious high tea menu and my floral showcase while you’re there!

A couple other things in the works – my grandkids and I painted some mosaic tiles for Canada Connects National Mural Mosaic (https://roots.muralmosaic.com/).  A fun project that allows artists and even non-artists to connect through tile art across the world.  They’ll be unveiling the full mural in January 2023, but I’ll give you a sneak peek of what our finished tiles looked like (see below).

And finally – painted some smaller pieces for a show coming up in November, but I’m sworn to secrecy on this one for now!  Can’t share any details just yet, but I’ll give you another sneak peek of what I’ve painted (tulips picture below).

Whew!  On top of everything, class is back in session and I’m back to teaching art classes every day.  As busy as I am, I do have a couple of spots available in my classes for adults or kids wanting to take up painting this season.  Check out my website for more info and send me an email if you’re interested!

Needless to say, the last couple of months have been a journey and a learning process, but a real example of one door closing and ten more opening up.  I can’t wait to keep teaching, sharing my work and doing what I love the rest of the year.

Hope you get a chance to visit some of my exhibits in the coming months.  Would love to connect with you all over what I’m most passionate about!  Enjoy Pumpkin Spice Season, and see you all soon.
